Man Builds Underground Dustbin with Automatic Garbage Lifting Technology in Hubli

India has a huge problem with improper waste disposal. With a humongous population, the daily amount of waste generation is extremely worrisome. The landfills are overwhelmed with waste and the litter mostly scattered on roadsides and streets are the characteristics of many Indian cities. Stressed with this plight of cities, a man has built an underground dustbin with automatic garbage lifting technology in Hubli, Karnataka. Vishwanath Patil, who runs the ‘Swacha, Swasth’ trust, has explored a new tech of underground waste bins to eliminate the garbage overflow and pungent smells they emit.

The unique disposal system with an underground dustbin has the automatic system of lifting and emptying the garbage without any spills while moving the waste and the bins. Patil has also made a litter van in which the waste can be discarded from the bin with minimum human contact.

These special-sensor-fitted garbage bins help discard garbage discreetly by keeping the garbage out of sight. It sends alerts to the officials once 70 percent of the bin is full to avoid garbage overflow. Besides, the machine occupies very little space when compared to other dumping facilities such as landfills and conventional garbage bins in public areas. It can store more waste than other bins as well.

Pictures of the system are going viral on social media and have been applauded and encouraged. Similar technology was implemented in Gujrat’s Surat, Mumbai, and Chennai.
