Solar-powered pavilion protects your car and juices it up too
We all search for a shady region away from the sunlight when we have to park our car in an open space. But not anymore, as the newly developed pure tension solar-powered pavilion by Los Angeles-based synthesis design + architecture is here to protect your electric vehicle and it will also juice up your ride with solar energy.’PURE tension’ pavilion is a collapsible tensile membrane structure designed for the new Volvo V60 which has been developed by studio Synthesis in collaboration with Buro Happold, Fabric Images and Volvo Car Italia.
Winner of the 2013 international “Switch to Pure Volvo” competition, the Volvo pavilion acts as a portable charging station and also provides shelter to the vehicle like a traditional pavilion. Made from high-density polyethylene mesh skin, the structure is supported by carbon fiber rods and is embedded with photovoltaic cells which charge the vehicle. According to the developers of ‘Pure tension’ pavilion it can also convert indoor lighting to energy.
The best thing about the solar-powered pavilion is that it is portable. The entire structure can be disassembled easily and stored in the trunk of the vehicle. The Pure Tension Solar Pavilion will be premiered in a special event on September 15 in Rome, Italy.
