Colgate-Palmolive to Introduce 100 Percent Recyclable Toothpaste Tubes in India

Taking a step towards sustainability, major consumer goods producer Colgate-Palmolive has launched 100 percent recyclable toothpaste tubes in India. These recyclable tubes will first be used to make Colgate’s Active Salt and Vedshakti toothpastes, and then will later be moved out for other brands.

The oral care company has been using recyclable cartons and boxes for over ten years and this new initiative is an additional step towards its continued efforts for sustainability. Colgate said that more brands could consequently move to recyclable packaging.

The brand worked with EPL Limited to design the tubes. It is sharing its technology with the industry to bring about a shift to a greener and circular economy.

According to a company statement, Colgate’s recyclable tubes are a state of advancement in its journey to achieve 100% recyclability across its oral care portfolio in India.

Given the harmful environmental impact of PET bottles, plastic tubes and multi-layered plastics and the recycling challenges, many brands have been thriving towards launching sustainable packaging.

Other companies are also eliminating their plastic packaging waste. Earlier this year, packaged consumer goods company Dabur India decided to give up the outer paper carton from its toothpaste brand Dabur Red Paste in order to reduce its packaging waste.
