Three-Legged Dog Fighting Cancer Saves Baby Otter from River

While humankind is being consumed by hate, violence, and war, animals go out of their way to help fellow animals. In a recent incident, a three-legged dog fighting cancer saves a baby otter from Minnesota River on Easter Sunday. The six-year-old goldendoodle, Gus rescued a tiny otter that was drowning in the river.

Gus had one of its back legs amputated earlier this year due to tumors. The dog’s owner, Cleo Young, said that she feared Gus will not be able to run after the surgery and chemotherapy. However, the cute little canine still runs around and swims, which was fortunate for the otter. The incident took place on Easter Sunday, Gus swam into the St. Croix River in Lakeland after seeing the newborn otter fraught in the water.

Young’s granddaughter Lucy said;

He was going after something, it was clear, but we didn’t know at first. He was really gentle. And I think he knew it needed help, and so he brought it right to us.

The family took the otter to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Roseville, from where it was transferred to another facility for more intense treatment. Wildlife officials said that without the dog’s intervention, the otter would have died.

The incident has been hailed as a remarkable story between two creatures, where one was battling for survival in near-freezing waters in the rivers, while the other was fighting raging malignant tumors. Gus is a mixed breed of a Golden retriever and a Poodle. Goldendoodles are famous for their intelligence and loyalty, as well as their energetic and affectionate characteristics. This inspiring episode of wildlife compassion is an inspiration for us humans.
