It’s no news that polluted waterways are becoming the reason for spreading diseases and even harming the environment significantly. To combat the issue of water pollution, RanMarine Technology has come up with an aquatic drone called WasteShark. It is an autonomous surface vessel (ASV) that uses drone technology to eliminate plastic waste and biomass from the affected water bodies.
Inspired by the sharks, this ASV deploys the preset mission routes on the user’s selected waterbody. The device can save up the routes and even re-run if needed for cleaning specific areas of the water bodies. It even makes use of GPS technology for navigating the desired areas and also to return to its dock.
The company says it can also add light detection and ranging features to avoid collision and better data collection. They mention that this niche design enables the device to be efficient, non-threatening, long-lived, and unobtrusive. Plus, it has zero greenhouse and carbon emissions. That means the device is an environmentally-friendly tool to fight water pollution.
The ASV can swim for up to 10 hours and has a 5 km range of running. It can clear around 500 kilos of plastic waste every day and run for around 3 km/h for six hours in its autonomous mode. The company has even integrated the 4G technology into this aquatic drone with 3 km of radio-controlled guidance.
RanMarine Technology aims to use WasteShark to target marine waste as a major source for removing 500 kg of waste every day from various waterways. Its compact size makes it portable to run safely and securely from any possible water area. The aqautic drone is small enough to get even to the tight spaces but big enough to collect a large amount of waste in one go.
All its features make this device ideal for all-purpose waste collection. It could be beneficial for various urban, industrial, rural, and leisure environments.
