Over 5 million e-scooters and electric bikes are sold around the globe every year. When it comes to India, this number is very meager, even considering the fact that electric vehicles have positive implication on air quality. A National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) is announced by the government of India, which incentivises use and production of electric vehicles including electric scooters and e-bikes. With the financial motivation, India has plans to have over 7 million electric vehicles on road by 2020.
Keeping pace with the government initiative, Hero Electric unveiled its Flash e-scooter at the Green Mobility Expo (GMX show) in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
According to the company, Flash e-scooter is powered by a lead-acid 48-volt, 20 Ah VRLA battery that runs a 250W motor under the hood. Flash weighs almost 87kg, and can travel up to 65km on a single charge.
Flash comes with a telescopic suspension, full bodyguard and a magnesium alloy wheels. With under-the-seat storage, Flash e-scooter is available in Silver-Black and Red-Black color combinations.
With a top speed of 25kmph, on 2,000 units of the Flash e-scooter will be available for sale for an introductory price of Rs 19,990. Interestingly, the price is after all the government subsidies under NEMMP are taken care of.
In India, it is not mandatory to register (with road transports authority) electric scooters with top speed capped at 25km per hour. Such e-scooters are not classified as motorbikes, and can therefore be driven on road legally without a driving license.
Hero Electric says, a stable body design makes Flash easy to ride. Moreover, you do not require a driving license or registration to take this beauty to the road.
