In-shoe energy dissipated from walking to power up mobiles!

The best thing about energy dissipation is that it happens all around us but only a few can underline its importance and harness it into something more useful. The latest innovation by University of Wisconsin-Madison engineering researchers, Tom Krupenkin and J. Ashley Taylor is an in-shoe energy harnessing device. What this means is that the system is designed in such a way that you can charge your phone via a process known as “Reverse Electro Wetting” that converts mechanical energy into electricity aided by a micro fluid device. In effect the system harvests the energy lost as heat while walking and stores it in an in-built rechargeable battery that can store 20 watts of electricity.
