Neeman’s: Indian Eco-Friendly Footwear Brand Recycles Plastic & Tyres
The first Indian eco-friendly footwear brand to create sustainable all-purpose shoes, Neeman's is an inspiration for all other players in the shoe market
Since more people are now becoming aware of the hazardous impact of industrialization on the environment, they are choosing brands that follow environmentally-friendly techniques for production. But if we talk about the Indian footwear market, sustainability is missing despite various domestic and international brands. To break this scenario, Neeman’s, an Indian eco-friendly footwear brand, has started using natural, recycled, renewable, and biodegradable fibers to make their sustainable shoes.
Established in 2018, the eco-friendly footwear brand is the brainchild of two brothers, Taran Chhabra and Amar Preet Singh, who were on a personal quest of owning all-purpose shoes. Soon after the launch into the Indian footwear industry, Hyderabad-based footwear brand has created a buzz with the use of their eco-friendly fiber, like merino wool, in their shoe manufacturing process.
According to The Better India, the brother duo has already recycled more than 1 million PET bottles and tyres and given them a new life in form of stylish sustainable shoes.
Inspiration Behind the Eco-Friendly Footwear Brand
Being a shoe aficionado, Taran Chhabra always loved to try new shoe designs and trends. His fascination for shoes grew more when he moved to the US for work. However, he always wanted to start his own business in India.
But the eureka moment to form Neeman’s struck him during his Spain trip with his brother Amar Preet Singh. When they both were packing, their suitcases were full of five different shoe pairs. It included formal shoes, running shoes, lounging shoes, casual shoes, and one extra pair.
And, that’s when Taran thought wouldn’t it be better if only one all-day shoe could meet the footwear needs for different purposes. After that, he started looking for an all-purpose shoe but was not able to find one.
Gradually, he started to research more and took a step to start his amazing journey of creating sustainable all-purpose shoes to fill the market gap. According to Taran, his shoe brand offers all-day comfort and style to the wearers. Meanwhile, the renewable materials used for their manufacturing make the footwear quite comfortable and green.
Neeman’s Growth and Future Plans
According to the footwear industry report, Indian footwear production ranks second globally. The country attains the third position in terms of footwear consumption. India contributes around 9% of global shoe production and consumes approximately 2.1 billion footwear units each year.
Neeman’s claims that the Indian footwear market is worth $600 to $650 million. And, with its sustainable footwear, the brand aims to become a leader in the domestic footwear market. They will further use their funds for research, product innovation, and growth in the international markets as well.
