For the past few months, severe air pollution in various Indian cities has had a noxious impact on citizens. Many measures were taken to combat the polluted air, especially in Delhi. In a unique initiative to fight the rising air pollution, “Oxygen Parlour” has been opened at Nashik railway station so passengers can experience clean air.
The initiative comes with the efforts of the Airo Guard in collaboration with the Indian Railways. The co-founder of Airo Guard, Amit Amritkar said that the concept of Oxygen Parlour is based on the analysis of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
While talking to ANI, Amritkar said,
In 1989, NASA has conducted a study in which they identified some plants that better absorb the five most harmful pollutants from the air. We have planted most of those plants.
These plants can clean the air in an area of 10X10 feet around them. There are around 1500 plants in Oxygen Parlour at Nashik railway station, directly and effectively bringing down the pollution in the air at the railway station and allowing people to breathe cleaner air.
The commuters at the railway station commended the effort as a positive step towards tackling air pollution in the cities across India.
This is a good effort towards improving air quality. I think that there should be such parlours in all the polluted areas and railway station
one of the commuters at Nasik railway station said.
According to Amritker, the objective is to expand this initiative to every railway station as well as every home.
It is indeed a good effort in order to negate the effects of polluted air in the cities. More such initiatives are required to improve the scenario.
