Prime Minister Narendra Modi is known for his unique and innovative fashion choices, but his latest outfit is making waves for a different reason. Recently, PM Modi was spotted in the Lok Sabha while sporting a blue, sleeveless jacket made from recycled PET bottles.
It is the same jacket that Indian Oil Corporation gifted him during the India Energy Week 2023 inauguration in Bengaluru on Monday. At the event, PM Modi launched the “unbottled” project and signaled the company’s commercial twin-cooktop model of an indoor solar cooking system.
Indian Oil’s chosen uniforms for retail customer attendants and LPG delivery staff are made from recycled polyester (rPET) and cotton, according to business executives. The uniforms for Indian Oil’s customer care representatives will help recycle roughly 28 old PET bottles.
Indian Oil seems to be advancing its sustainability goal by introducing the eco-friendly clothing line “Unbottled” manufactured from recycled polyester. Meanwhile, the company’s move is in line with PM Modi’s efforts to promote a cleaner and greener India, as he has been vocal about the need for phasing out single-use plastic and conserving the environment.

Praising the company’s sustainable initiative, PM Modi mentioned that he was glad to receive a jacket made from recycled plastic bottles. He further stated that the country has been making huge strides to move to a greener economy and use less energy. Every Indian’s lifestyle incorporates a circular economy in some form, he said, giving the reason the people in the country already have been following the ideals of “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle” for centuries.
He also added that turning plastic bottles into such uniforms or other clothing pieces annually can significantly contribute to environmental protection. PM Modi wearing a sustainable jacket has been well received by the public, too. It is being seen as a major step towards promoting sustainable fashion in India and encouraging citizens to adopt environmentally-friendly practices.
With plastic waste becoming a major problem in India, such initiatives can help reduce the amount of plastic in the environment and raise awareness. Thanks to such sustainable clothing, everyone can play some role in protecting the environment and preserving it for future generations.
