Punjab Governor and Administrator of Chandigarh Union Territory, V P Singh Badnore, launched “Poshan on Wheels” on November 28. It includes two mobile Anganwadi vans which will be serving nutritious food to the children of construction workers.

Badnore shared the highlights of the initiative through social media;
The motive to launch this initiative is to provide the benefits of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) schemes and to reach out to the children of labourers who are often left deprived of developmental programmes. The vans are equipped with utensils, plates, tiffins, even a hot plate ensuring that the food being served is hot and is in the best quality possible. The menu is the same as the usual Anganwadi menu.
The vans called “Poshan on Wheels” thrive to cover the marginalised population working on the construction sites. Labourers, who are often left out of the development schemes as their work is migrant in nature will benefit from this initiative. These mobile vans will cover areas such as jhuggis, slums, construction sites and more.

The ICDS schemes benefit the children from the age of six months to six years, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and adolescent girls. Poshan on Wheels is expected to benefit over 400 people daily.
The vans will cover the construction sites of Colony No. 4 (EWS Houses), Sanjay Colony Industrial Areas, Construction Site of PGI, Police Flats in Dhanas and Construction area near Secretariat, Sector-9 Chandigarh.
The Administrator flagged off the vans from Raj Bhawan, Sector-6 Chandigarh. He also examined the food that was being served to the children. Earlier, there was only one van that was serving nutritious food to the children at the construction site near PGIMER. The addition of another van is likely to increase the productivity of the service and more areas will be covered efficiently.
